Bits and Pieces of Loveliness

22 Jul

A bit of a lazy day over here today I’m afraid.  I had a substantive post written but it’s lying on my memory stick, which unfortunately isn’t with me, so it’ll have to wait until tomorrow, along with Friday 5.  In lieu of writing, therefore, I thought I’d point you all towards a few cool things I’ve found on my internet travels of late, as well as a little bit of TilT.  Hope you enjoy them…

To ponder…

…an interesting article about hiring people to be your friend (yes, that’s right!) here.  Not sure what I think about this - is there any aspect of life left uncommodified these days?  If you can buy friendship, then I suspect there isn’t, and I find that thought more than just slightly depressing.

To swoon over…

…a long-term blog love of mine which has started up again.  Kali over at Poppy Lane takes gorgeous photos, makes beautiful things and also writes some lovely words to go with everything.  A little squint at her blog makes me come over all inspired and thankful for the simple beauty that can be found in everyday life.  It’s also where I found the following quote by Augusten Burroughs, which I am thinking sums my current outlook on life up well, perfectly… “I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions.”  Isn’t that great?!

To make…

…a cool and relatively simple-looking tea cosy here.  We already have three tea cosies at home, but I might give this a bash for someone’s birthday or Christmas present – they make good hats, if anything!

To be inspired by…

This fantastic post, which I found over at Four Hour Workweek.  It’s written by Rolf Potts, author of the book Vagabonding, and is just amazing.  Inspiring, motivating and just brilliantly written as well.  I can’t do it justice by writing about it - READ THIS POST!!

To give thanks for…

…’Things I Love Thursday’!  I really enjoy reading TilT posts and tweets - Rachel over at Go Placidly always writes great ones that leave me feeling insanely chipper about those little things in life.  On this particular Thursday, I myself am thankful for rain (refreshing, makes the grass greener and the plants live longer, lets you use an umbrella or bunker down on the sofa with some stodgy comfort food and lots of tea without feeling like you should be outside),  prospects and plans (the America trip, returning to uni, middle-of-the-day breaks between classes when I can sit in coffee shops and blog or read or simply stare into space – that’s a particularly nice one), tea (needs no explaining) and friendship (because where would we be without it?).

That’s all for today I think!  Hope you’re all having lovely Thursdays, and are finding plenty to be thankful for.  Back tomorrow!
